Which snack would you go for: veggie chips or popcorn? One’s a healthy snack, one, not so much. The answer may surprise you.
Bags with pictures of vegetables on the front seem like healthier options than regular potato chips, but turning those bags around reveals that they don’t contain many veggies at all. In fact, most “veggie chips” are made from corn or wheat flour with some vegetable starch added for color and flavoring. If you do choose veggie chips, make sure the ingredients list only contains vegetables such as sweet potatoes, parsnips, and taro root.
When you think popcorn, you're probably picturing the bright yellow stuff covered in salt and butter at the movie theater. I think we can all agree that falls in the unhealthy snack category. But it doesn’t have to! Without adding loads of butter and salt, popcorn is actually a heart-healthy whole grain. Dress it up with spices like cinnamon or curry powder and a tiny amount of olive oil for a yummy, lower calorie snack, perfect any time of day.
